Led by Colombian percussionist Wilson Melo Garcia, these two-hour sessions focus on tone, technique, and the core rhythmic patterns of conga, bongo, cowbell and clave — with optional güiro and maracas. Open to all skill levels, each workshop builds confidence, explores ensemble grooves, and connects you with Geelong’s growing Latin music community. - Do I need to bring an instrument?
- We provide a range of instruments including congas, bongos, cowbells, claves, güiros and maracas. If you’d like to focus on a particular instrument, we recommend bringing your own.
- What should I expect?
- Each workshop is hands-on and inclusive. You’ll learn tone production, hand technique, and core rhythmic patterns, then explore how the instruments fit together in an ensemble. Absolute beginners and experienced players are welcome.
- Do I need prior experience?
- No. Workshops welcome all skill levels. Beginners learn step-by-step; experienced players refine technique and expand their rhythmic vocabulary.
- How long is each workshop?
- Sessions run for two hours, typically from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
- How do I pay?
- Workshop fee is $40 per person. You can pay in cash or by card (1.94% surcharge applies).
- Do I need to pre-register?
- No pre-registration is required. Just turn up on the day, ready to play.
- What should I wear or bring?
- Comfortable clothing is recommended. Bring water, and if you want to specialise, bring your own instrument. We supply percussion instruments, PA and a small mixing desk for ensemble sessions.
- Where do I park?
- Free parking is available in the lot opposite the hall on Little Myers Street. Entry is via the big red doors on Little Myers Street.
