Our Afro-Cuban percussion workshops in Geelong are offered on demand and are perfect for anyone wanting to explore rhythm in a relaxed, supportive environment. Led by Colombian percussionist Wilson Melo Garcia, these sessions focus on tone, technique, and the core rhythmic patterns of conga, bongo, cowbell, clave, güiro and maracas.
Workshops are suitable for all skill levels — beginners learn step-by-step, while experienced players refine technique, expand their rhythmic vocabulary, and enjoy ensemble playing. If you’re curious about Afro-Cuban rhythm, these sessions are a great way to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring an instrument?
We provide congas, bongos, cowbells, claves, güiros and maracas. If you prefer to focus on your own instrument, you’re welcome to bring it along.
Do I need prior experience?
No. Workshops are suitable for complete beginners through to experienced players. Beginners learn step-by-step; experienced musicians refine technique and explore more advanced rhythmic ideas.
When are workshops held?
Workshops are currently offered on demand. Once enough interest is received, a session is scheduled and announced. There are no regular weekly classes at the moment.
What should I bring?
Bring water and, if you want to specialise, your own instrument. We supply percussion instruments, PA speaker and a small mixing desk for ensemble work.
Can beginners join?
Absolutely. Workshops are designed to be welcoming and accessible. You’ll learn at your own pace with clear guidance and plenty of hands-on practice.
